The series delves into the criminal justice system and explores themes of innocence, guilt, and the quest for truth through the lens of a young man who finds himself entangled in a murder case.

Main Characters:

  • Kim Hyun-soo (played by Kim Soo-hyun): A regular college student whose life turns upside down when he becomes the prime suspect in a murder case.
  • Shin Joong-han (played by Cha Seung-won): A scrappy and unconventional lawyer who takes on Hyun-soo's case. Despite his unrefined methods, he is determined to uncover the truth and defend Hyun-soo.

Plot:

The Night of the Incident: Kim Hyun-soo is an ordinary college student leading an uneventful life. One fateful night, seeking a brief escape, he borrows his father's taxi without permission and goes out. He ends up giving a ride to a mysterious young woman named Hong Guk-hwa (played by Hwang Se-on). The night takes a dark turn when Hyun-soo wakes up the next morning to find Guk-hwa brutally murdered, with no memory of what happened.

Arrest and Investigation: Hyun-soo is quickly arrested as the prime suspect due to the overwhelming evidence against him, including his presence at the crime scene and traces of his DNA. The investigation reveals various inconsistencies, but the evidence seems damning. Hyun-soo maintains his innocence but faces immense pressure from the police and the media.

Legal Defense: Shin Joong-han, a down-and-out lawyer with a questionable reputation, decides to take on Hyun-soo's case. Despite his rough exterior and unorthodox methods, Joong-han proves to be a tenacious and cunning advocate. He believes in Hyun-soo's innocence and is determined to navigate the corrupt and complex legal system to prove it.

Courtroom Drama: The series delves deep into the courtroom drama as Joong-han works tirelessly to build Hyun-soo's defense. They face a relentless prosecutor who is determined to see Hyun-soo convicted. The trial uncovers hidden truths, explores the flaws in the justice system, and raises questions about the nature of guilt and innocence.

Personal Struggles: Hyun-soo's life and the lives of those around him are irreversibly changed by the murder accusation. He struggles with the psychological trauma of the accusation, the harsh realities of prison life, and the stigma of being labeled a murderer. Joong-han, on the other hand, confronts his own past failures and ethical dilemmas as he fights for Hyun-soo's freedom.
